IBAT’s Annual Convention is a four-day event that takes an in-depth look at key issues impacting the banking industry, specifically those related to community banks. General sessions (often featuring renowned national speakers), learning labs, regulator roundtables and banker-peer resource sharing sessions are offered on the education front. He has always maintained longstanding ties to his community. John O’ Leary
The Power of One
Monday, September 23 | 8:00-9:00 a.m.

Expected to die, John O’Leary now teaches others how to truly live. O’Leary was a curious nine-year-old boy. Playing with fire and gasoline, he created a massive explosion in his garage and was burned on 100 percent of his body. Given less than one percent chance of survival, O’Leary is proof of the power of the human spirit. O’Leary is consistently referenced as “the best speaker we’ve ever had.” His book, On Fire: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life, was an instant No. 1 national bestseller, has sold 100,000-plus copies and been translated into 12 languages.

Jelena McWilliams
Monday Luncheon Speaker
Monday, September 23 | 12:25-1:00 p.m.

Jelena McWilliams was sworn in as the 21st chairman of the Federal Depost Insurance Corporation (FDIC) on June 5, 2018. She will serve a six-year term on the FDIC board of directors and is designated as chairman for a term of five years. McWilliams was executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. At Fifth Third Bank, she served as a member of the executive management team and on numerous bank committees, including management compliance, enterprise risk, risk and compliance, operational risk, enterprise marketing and regulatory change. Prior to joining Fifth Third Bank, McWilliams worked in the U.S. Senate for six years, most recently as chief counsel and deputy staff director for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. McWilliams graduated with highest honors from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and also earned her law degree there.

Dave Martin
Good People Win
Tuesday, September 24 | 11:15 a.m.-Noon

Like many in the banking industry, Dave Martin was an accidental banker. After early careers as a radio morning man, marketing director for an oil field industry supplier and a stretch working in the finance department of a university research facility, Martin was recruited by a friend to join a bank. Specifically, he was hired to run that institution’s first in-store branch location. Two decades and stints as a senior bank executive and trainer/consultant later, Martin’s core beliefs about banking remain intact. Banking remains a people business, and organizations with good people win. Martin has become one of the most prolific writers in the banking industry. His columns and newsletters are read in thousands of financial institutions each month. He is also a member of the guest faculty of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.
